Samick Wikia

Introduced in 1990, the Samick K models were "superstrats" with "Spoon Cut" bevels in the cutaways. While similar to the Y bodystyle, it features an arched top, rounded body edges, differently shaped horns and a more round bottom half. The Y body is closer to a traditional Strat shape.

In 1991, Samick changed its naming conventions, thus the multiple names for certain models. For help understanding model names, see Naming Conventions. In 1995, all K models became part of the Artist Series.

KR-564[]

KR-564 GPS

GPS (Image: VintageGuitar.com)

The KR-564 differs from the KR-560 in that it features dual-rail style single coil pickups.

The KR-564 GP featured several different 3-dimensional graphic designs, all done by hand. It is often said that 1,500 units were produced, but this is unconfirmed.

The GPSK finish was a copy of the ESP George Lynch Skull & Snakes model's graphic. Contrary to some unfounded claims, these did not precede the ESP model and have no relation to the ESP model. The ESP George Lynch model was first introduced in 1986, five years before Samick's version. Also, Samick did not build the ESP model, those were made in Japan (the things some people come up with, huh?). Samick has never had any professional relationship with ESP.

The GPS finish was Samick's take on their own Skull and Snakes design. This finish is less common than the GPSK.
